October always hits differently..
It’s the month that reminds me where I’ve been, what I’ve fought through, and just how far God has carried me. Every year, the pink ribbons start to appear — on cars, store shelves, football uniforms — and I feel that familiar mix of gratitude and ache. Gratitude for healing… and ache for the memories that come rushing back.
For me, October will always be more than Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It’s a reminder of survival, faith, and grace in motion.
The Weight and Warmth of October
This October was full, as it always is. Between pink ribbon events, survivor stories filling my feed, and the Drive for a Cure (my favorite — especially the car reserved just for survivors), I felt every emotion in the book.
It’s the good kind of heavy — the kind that humbles you and fills you with perspective. I see women walking similar roads, some just starting their treatment, others celebrating ten years clear. And every time, I whisper a quiet “thank you” — for my own story, for another year of being here to tell it.
But I’ll be honest: by the end of October, I’m tired. Awareness month takes emotional energy — even when it’s beautiful. So as the pumpkins fade and the Christmas lights start to twinkle, I always crave one thing: a reset.
From Pink to Christmas Ribbons

November feels like the exhale after a deep breath.
The candy wrappers are still everywhere (thanks, Halloween), Carson is training for his black belt, and our new treadmill is patiently waiting for me to decide when “tomorrow” starts. Family group chats are already buzzing with talk of gift exchanges, and I’m over here just trying to catch my breath.
But this year, I’m choosing something different.
I’m slowing down — on purpose.
Because if October taught me anything, it’s that life doesn’t need to be perfect to be precious.
Healing isn’t just about medical charts or milestones — it’s about giving yourself permission to rest, to laugh, to live fully in the in-between.
How I’m Bringing Grace Into This Season
Instead of rushing into December chaos, I’m trying a few simple resets this month. Maybe they’ll help you, too:
1. Pause Before Saying Yes
It’s okay to protect your peace. I’m learning that “No, not this year” can be one of the most freeing sentences during the holidays.
2. Celebrate Progress, Not Perfection
Whether it’s walking on the treadmill for ten minutes, or actually folding the laundry the same day you wash it — small victories count.
3. Create Cozy Moments That Don’t Require Effort
A candle lit after dinner. A family movie night. A mug of coffee you actually finish before it gets cold.
These little pauses remind me that joy doesn’t come from doing more — it comes from being present.
Carrying Hope Forward
As we trade pink ribbons for Christmas ribbons, I’m carrying the same message into the holidays that October always brings: we are stronger than we realize.
I still believe healing is holy work — not because it’s easy, but because it teaches us how to live with open hands and a grateful heart.
So wherever you are this season — celebrating, grieving, or somewhere in between — know this:
You don’t have to earn rest. You don’t have to prove strength. You’re already doing enough.
From pink ribbons to Christmas ribbons, I’m holding onto hope — and maybe a little coffee, too. ☕💗
